"Brawler" is the English word that defines a brawler, a big brute with no brain who will risk taking hits to bash back and even harder! It gave its name to a video game genre that was very popular in the 80s/90s.
Formerly known as "beat 'em all", these games are distinguished by frenetic action, featuring characters who face hordes of enemies with bare hands or with melee weapons.
It's brash but really great for blowing off steam.
We are really into close-quarters combat and in linear environments, with movement from left to right or sometimes top to bottom.
Prepare especially to face large groups of enemies simultaneously, true hordes!
By extension, nowadays, arena fighting games in the style of 'Super Smash Bros' are also classified as 'brawlers' because these are games where characters fight with bare hands or with melee weapons.
But here the arenas are platform-based.
We stay in the brawl!

Imagine an arena brawl between SpongeBob the Ninja Turtles, and the characters from Avatar. Just like in Smash Bros, each attack causes the percentage of the player getting hit to rise. The higher the percentage, the further the next blow will send them flying. Get knocked out of the battle area and it's game over. For the melee pros out there.
