You play as a soldier who isn't there to take in the scenery. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to make your way through the levels shooting anything that moves. It's an action-packed game that won't give you a moment's rest. Over the course of the levels, you'll be saving old people who will give you weapons by way of thanks. The gameplay is frenetic and you'll be using plenty of credits before you clock the game. It's a 2D game, and the D-pad is used to point your weapon, then there are buttons to shoot, jump and throw grenades. Metal Slug's graphics are the icing on the cake: with their cartoon aesthetic they are a wonder to behold and really create the mood of the game. Because even though it's a war game, Metal Slug is also a very funny one. As an added bonus, it supports multiplayer so that you can have a laugh with your pals and compete to get the high score.

Often overlooked as a mainstream fighting game, King of Fighters is nevertheless a benchmark title for fans of the genre. It's difficult to describe a fighting game without letting you play it, but this is a 2D fighting game, just like Street Fighter. What makes King of Fighters unique is the way it sees two teams of three fighters (chosen from a wider selection) face off against each other, rather than a straight head to head like in Street Fighter or Tekken. We could tell you about the Story mode, but just like in most fighting games "story" just means "one fight after another".

For gamers who want to compete without fighting, Twinkle Star Sprites is made for you, a PvP shooter. The screen is split vertically and each player controls a character on their own battlefield. The aim is to take down you opponent from a distance. To do so, you'll need to fire straight ahead at colourful little balls. Each combo will cause damage to your opponent, but if the game goes on too long the grim reaper will get involved and the first player to get hit will die immediately. The game is cuter than cute, and it almost makes you feel bad to take out all of these cute little characters.
