MUST-PLAY! As fun as ever in multiplayer, the concept in Overcooked! 2 is basically the same as in the first game, but the levels feature some hilarious new mechanics: the recipes are more complex, the levels crazier, and you'll even need to throw food across the level to get cooking faster. The best co-op game out there.
Did you love Overcooked! but were left feeling peckish? Then Overcooked! 2 is the dish for you!
In the game, you'll find that the Onion Kingdom is in once again in peril thanks to its king. His Majesty has been cooking up dishes from a cursed recipe book known as the Necro-Nom-Nom-Icon (a clever play on Lovecraft's Necronomicon). In doing so, he has awoken the Unbread: starving sliced bread zombies. So, this time, you'll be using your culinary skills to fill the bellies of these creatures with their apparently insatiable appetites.
You'll be travelling throughout the kingdom in your food truck to find new recipes and put your team spirit to the test as you fulfil the orders of all of the kingdom's weird residents. Of course, the plot is just a pretext, but it serves up great big dollops of laughs and generous helpings of sticky (toffee) situations to enjoy with your family and friends.
We liked the new take on that classic Overcooked! recipe, upgraded with fresh ingredients for extra spice while retaining the familiar flavour of the original game for a real taste sensation.
On the menu: increasingly convoluted recipes with ever more complex ingredients, making use of a pressure cooker and blender, and all on slippery surfaces... and that's just for starters. Spoiler alert: in the first level, you'll start off cooking in a hot air balloon with the wind blowing the worktops around. All of a sudden, a ferocious storm descends upon the balloon. You'll land in an old kitchen, where there are new dishes to make... and quick!
But that's not all you can expect. In some levels, you'll need to collect dirty plates and even wash dishes... Orders are only displayed for a short while, and if they disappear you'll receive a penalty. If you serve a dish quickly, however, the chefs earn tips.
Our favourite part? The new ability to throw ingredients (although we admit this might not be food hygiene best practice) to your teammates who can't come and pick them up themselves. It might not seem that special, but being able to throw a tomato to another chef or worktop from the other side of the screen has a real effect on the gameplay. In a game where speed and efficiency are the dish of the day, every second you can save might just make the difference.
And while the fun of the game lies in this chaotic cooperation, you can play the entire game in single-player by swapping between chefs. It's a good way to get some practice in and familiarise yourself with the different levels' recipes and obstacles.
Then there's the eight secret levels and no fewer than 24 chefs to unlock! A real “all you can play” buffet! Mad laughs served fresh every day.
And we won't feed you lies, Overcooked! 2 is a real kitchen nightmare, as well as one of the best party games out there... so eat your fill!
