The big comeback for the hilarious invertebrates of the Worms franchise. Use the weapons at your disposal to wipe out the opposing team, all in 2D for that authentic retro experience. The game also features vehicles for getting around, using as cover, and attacking, and there are towers and buildings you can visit. You can even craft weapons. Great in single-player, it’s fantastic in multiplayer.
Welcome to the land of the earthworm. Here, you'll be in command of a squad of worms as they wage war against equally well-armed worms across fully destructible levels. An iconic classic with its cartoon aesthetic and plenty of laughs.
Just like in all the other Worms games (and there have been quite a few over the past 20 years!), the aim of W.M.D is a simple one: kill every worm on the opposing team. There's no story here, but rather a series of 30 missions topped off with additional challenges that you can unlock by finding the wanted posters hidden in some levels.
It's back to the roots for the iconic series, with a return to 2D graphics, but the gameplay has plenty of new features.
We liked the introduction of vehicles into the Worms franchise for the very first time, as well as the buildings that you can use for cover.
Our favourite part? The crafting! There's a pretty basic crafting system that lets players collect components from special crates that are dropped randomly from the skies. These components can then be used to create crazy new weapons and tools in the special crafting panel, accessible from the weapons menu.
Our tip: it's best to start crafting while the other team is playing their turn. It really saves time and will help you earn that victory. You can craft at any time, though, and it doesn't consume any turns.
We loved Challenge mode, where players are tasked with taking out one single very-hard-to-kill worm (either because it's so tough, or is hiding in a hard to reach location). It turns into a puzzle you'll need your wits to resolve. A fresh way to play the game!
But like in all the Worms games, multiplayer mode is where the fun really happens. You can even customise every aspect of the multiplayer mode, from the level's appearance to which weapons are available.
And like in all the best co-op games, you'll be laughing your socks off one moment and crying out in desperation the next.
This is a game that everyone loves, so don't miss out on its madcap take on warfare!
