What is an Easter Egg? These little secrets scattered by developers all around our favorite games?

Everyone loves Easter eggs, those little secrets tucked away in video games. Since the 2000s, the term has gained a few more lines in the dictionary. It now defines a hidden secret in a game. Often hard to find, these Easter eggs are nods to the most curious players.

An Easter egg can take many forms, but the effect most often produced by these is a small, sly smile on the lips of the player who found it. They hurry to share their discovery online, prompting a swarm of other players to head out in search of it.

The first Easter egg in history, placed by a frustrated developer who wasn't credited in his own game: Adventure (1979)

Apex Legends, the latest battle royale to date, is also jam-packed with Easter eggs. The game even drops an unexpected nod to... Overwatch: Pathfinder, the game's robot, is attacked by a bird during one of its emotes. Even though the bird belongs to another character in the game, you can't ignore the similarity with Bastion, Blizzard's nature-loving robot from the shooter.

So grab your controllers—the egg hunt begins!
