What are Die and Retry games (or Try and Die)?

Do you love a challenge and difficulty? This type of game is made for you! But be prepared, you might drop a few choice words as you have to restart.

The 'Die & retry' games indeed FORCE ALL players to die before succeeding, even the best. Some will die 4 times, others 100 times.

Unlike a classic game, for example a platformer, where the player, if careful and possessing a certain dexterity, can pass most obstacles on the first try, in a 'Die and retry' everything is designed so that no one can make it on the first go.
At each obstacle, the player cannot take in all the data to consider during a first attempt. This can manifest in various ways: forced and rapid scrolling, a very tight time limit, dangers impossible to anticipate, etc.
Before the first attempt (before dying), the player does not have all the keys to cross an obstacle. Thus, it is only by dying, and dying again, that they learn to read all the data of a situation.
It is only in the midst of danger that the player can gradually analyze the said obstacle, a learning-by-death. And as the obstacles chain together, you risk dying a little too often.

For cinephiles, it's the video game adaptation of the films 'Groundhog Day' (1993) or 'Edge of Tomorrow' (2014), where Tom Cruise is doomed to die and relive almost indefinitely to try other choices in order to 'change the future'.
Failure is thus rich in lessons and calls on the player's thinking, even more than their talent or knowledge of the level to provide a solution to a problem that's hard to overcome.
But what joy and what satisfaction with every level cleared.
