A fantastic point and click game for fans of haunted houses, Satanism, and ghosts. It's both scary and easy to play: if you get stuck on a puzzle there are clues to help, and you can even decide to leave it unsolved and move on with the game. Perfect for fans of dark, terrifying stories where you feel watched and followed by an invisible presence.

If you like haunted houses but don't want to be scared out of your wits, True Fear: Forsaken Souls Part 1 is the game for you.

Scored 9.5/10 on Steam, this game is just terrifying enough, with a general vibe that's just touches on the harrowing. It fits in the puzzler and Hidden Object Game (HOG) genres, set in a dilapidated house in which something lives...

This is the first instalment in a trilogy, and you can find the sequel here at Blacknut, too.

When you receive an urgent message from your sister, Heather, you head over to the address provided in the letter: an abandoned house of which you have memories good and bad.

Try to stay calm, because you're not really alone...

We loved the dark and harrowing atmosphere that has plenty of jump scares in store as you combine items to learn exactly what fate has befallen your sister... Every detail counts if you're to progress through this series of sordid, satanic, and ghostly environments.

The puzzles can be quite tricky and will put your memory to work, because the solution is often far removed from the item you begin with. A bit like in a police investigation you'll need to gather clues, but it can be a while before you finally understand how to use them.

Our favourite part? The haunted doll (just like Annabelle) who is there to help you in the game. There's a "clue" option that will tell you to move to a different room, close a window, or open a filthy refrigerator, and then help you combine what you find. She breathes a black smoke that will help you know which direction to go next. If you get really stuck on a puzzle, the doll can also let you just move on to the next step. This means that True Fear gives players full control over how challenging their game is.

While this is a point and click game, there are short cutscenes that progress the story and crank up the fear.

A tip for the impatient gamer: remember that the first act of the game is the slowest paced, so you can make it go faster by using clues and moving on to the second act. This is where the plot really starts to thicken. What happened to the main characters' family? Who is that terrifying girl (think The Ring) that follows you everywhere?

True Fear knows how to keep you on the edge of your seat and make you want to dive straight in to the next instalment, True Fear: Forsaken Souls Part 2.
