With its clever AI and tutorials to turn you into a railroad ace, this has to be the world's best train sim! It immerses you in the world of rail, where the signals help to keep you on track! With breathtaking graphics and dynamic weather effects that can see a sunny day turn into an atrocious storm, every journey is a whole new adventure.
If you've been dreaming of the ultimate train driving sim experience, Train Sim World 3 is far and away the most comprehensive one out there. Developed by Dovetail Games, the game immerses you in a world where every detail counts. And it definitely has to be said: this is simulation pushed to its peak. You'll be right there in the cab as a train driver, in control of ultra-detailed trains travelling through breathtaking landscapes. And take note: this is not an easy ride along the rails. Mastering the controls, managing your time and the stages of each journey all demand ability, patience and, most of all, immersion.
Train Sim World 3 gets right to the point, and after a brief customisation of your driver, it’s straight into the driver’s cab. The game lets you play as a driver of some very different trains: from the fast German ICE 1 to the ES44C4 freight train as it rides through the arid landscape of Cajon Pass in California. Each model has its own unique features. The ICE 1, for example, is a high-speed train and demands careful management of acceleration and braking, while the ES44C4, a more powerful but slower train, tasks you with managing heavy loads along steep inclines.
We liked the realism and sense of immersion. Every train is a faithful replica of its real world counterpart, and you'll really feel the weight of the wagons, the impact of braking, and the way the train handles inclines. The landscapes are simply beautiful to behold, especially lines like the Cajon Pass and the weather effects that make the whole experience more immersive. The dynamic weather and the way visibility is handled with smoke from your engines or storms is masterfully done. As for the sound effects, their realism is unrivalled. Every acceleration and braking makes a realistic sound, further cementing the sense of immersion.
Our favourite part? The Railway Journey mode that lets you play long and varied missions where you don't just drive the train, but also complete specific tasks along several different routes similar to a career mode.
Our tip to help you on your way? If you're new to the world of Train Sim World 3, don't get ahead of yourself. The controls are detailed and complex. Each train has its own dashboard and different trains have different controls. We recommend starting with the tutorials if you don't want to find yourself in a difficult situation with no idea of which button to press. The tutorials are designed to guide you and do it well, but take note that Train Sim World 3 doesn't hold your hand for long. Driving a train demands concentration and precision, especially if you want to stick to the timetable and safety guidelines. You'll need to manage your acceleration, speed, and brakes, as well as more technical aspects like the engine temperature and level crossings.
