Here's an ultra-realistic simulation for railway fanatics. It puts you at the controls of iconic trains along famous rail lines like the Bakerloo Line in London and Sand Patch Grade in the USA. Detailed graphics and a variety of challenges spice up your railway journey, and you can also stroll along the platforms or customise your trains and routes in Scenariomode.

Imagine yourself at the controls of a train, travelling at high speed through epic landscapes while managing all the train's technical aspects. Well, this is exactly what's in store in Train Sim World 2. The game immerses you in the world of a train driver with a wide selection of trains to drive, from French TGVs to German Intercity Express trains, and including the London Underground. Just know that this is not a casual gaming experience: every movement and action on the controls requires care and concentration. All of the trains are different: getting a TGV or a German high-speed train on the go, for example, requires you to understand a control system that's far more complex than that found in a lowly metro system. You'll need to juggle between the speed levers, the reset switches, the control panels, and the braking system, remembering to sound the audio alerts at the right time. It's not easy, take our word for it!

Thankfully, from the very start of the game there's a voice to guide you through the process of learning the controls, but you'll still need plenty of perseverance to master every aspect of each train.

One of the strengths of Train Sim World 2 is its wide selection of vehicles. There aren't just trains, but all different kinds of rail networks. The London Underground is unique, as are the suburban transit systems and mainline trains. The realism in how the different networks are reproduced makes the game a real apprenticeship.

We liked the level of technical detail. Whether you're managing the train's power supply, choosing between driving methods, or even the realistic mechanical noises, it's all designed to deliver total immersion. The graphics are also fantastic, with a variety of beautiful environments that whizz by at high speed. When it comes to the soundscape, Train Sim World 2 is right on the money: the sound of a moving train, platform announcements in the stations, and warning sounds are all true to life, making the experience all the more intense.

Our absolute favourite part was the diverse range of environments. You'll find yourself driving through mountains, over suspension bridges, and right through the city on London's DLR. The changing landscapes, as well as the ability to switch between different trains and even take a stroll through its carriages, all make each session unique. The joy of watching the landscapes go by with a palpable sense of speed is a definite highlight.

Our tip to help you on your way?
If you're new to this kind of game, don't rush right into complex mission with a high speed train. Take the time to master the basics, learn the controls for each train and, most importantly, familiarise yourself with the acceleration and braking systems. Train Sim World 2 might be frustrating in the beginning, but if you persevere you'll feel real satisfaction every time you pull off a perfectly executed manoeuvre. Remember to make good use of the tutorials and even take notes: it makes all the difference when it comes to mastering the controls and the different kinds of trains.

Train Sim World 2 is definitely a game for players aged 16+ who enjoy a technical challenge and ultra-realistic games. Note that it might be intimidating at the start, especially for younger gamers or newbies to sim games. It demands patience, concentration, and plenty of perseverance.
