It's not easy to understand all the gamers' vocabulary. We explain the different types of video games.
Escherian Game\n\nVideo games with no up or down, featuring a distorted perspective inspired by the world of Maurits Cornelis Escher. This masterful 20th-century artist created complex, nested, kaleidoscopic works with mind-bending perspectives that challenge our perceptions by creating spaces that are impossible to construct, generating a feeling of deep strangeness. Aesthetic video games that require thought, such as The Bridge or Back to Bed\n\n### Arcade Game\n\nOriginally, an arcade game is a video game installed in an arcade cabinet, presented as a piece of furniture with a coin slot, a screen, and a control device. By extension, an arcade game is a game that allows quick sessions. Arcade games are also the opposite of simulation games; they are games with simple controls, intuitive gameplay, and a design close to comics, animation, and design (example: a car game without gears like Toybox Turbos is an arcade racing game while Gravel is a simulation racing game).\n\nAt Blacknut we also have cult arcade games drawn from real arcade cabinets: SNK games and a plethora of arcade games for the whole family: Asterix & Obélix XXL 2, Ninjin: Clash of Carrots, Anarcute, Strikers Edge, Abraca - Imagic Games...\n\n### Adventure Game\n\nA video game type in which the player gradually uncovers the plot by interacting with the environment and non-player characters. The first adventure game was called “Adventure,” by Willie Crowther (1972).\nAt Blacknut we have something for all tastes: poetic like The Flame in the Flood, or the epic Ryse: Son of Rome, fantasy with Lords of the Fallen or Extinction, or this stroll through the history of video games with Evoland.\nAnd in styles of the widest variety: Styx: Master of Shadows, Call of Juarez: Gunslinger, Sniper Ghost Warrior 3, Furi, Aragami, Anima : Gate of Memories...\n\n### Platform Game\n\nA video game type in which the character must jump from platform to platform to collect various bonuses. It’s the favorite type of game for children.\nWe have plenty to appeal to children and their parents in Blacknut’s catalog: Chariot, Pid, Ginger: Beyond the Crystal, Seasons after Fall, Ethan: Meteor Hunter, Yono and the Celestial Elephants, Chronology, Hue.\n\n### Puzzle Game\n\nThey are grouped into sub-genres: maze games, hidden object games, puzzle games; these require logic and thinking. It is often the digital adaptation of traditional games, such as those from [ASMODEE] but we also find original games. Riddles, mazes, and puzzles are heavily represented and encourage the player to think to unlock a passage, open a door, or solve a problem. Point-and-clicks are part of it but are accompanied by an elaborate storyline.\nIn Blacknut’s catalog there are a ton such as: [Sherlock Holmes: The Devil's Daughter], Syberia 1 [Syberia 2] [Syberia 3], [Bridge Constructor], [Human Fall Flat], [Carcassonne - Tiles & Tactics], [Abalone], [Circles], [Lines].\n\n### Role-Playing Game (RPG)\n\nSynonymous with Role Playing Game (RPG). Games where you play as a character and experience epic adventures through stories full of twists. An RPG runs for dozens of hours at a minimum... Among our favorites across very different universes: Blackguards 1 and 2, Evoland, Dead Age, For The King, Bound by Flame, The Technomancer.\n\n### Simulation Game\n\nA type of video game oriented toward simulation. It can be a sport, a profession, or a vehicle. These games are meant to be as realistic as possible (as opposed to arcade games) and require real handling. At Blacknut we offer, in particular: [WRC 7], [Tennis World Tour], [Farming Simulator 19], [Pure Farming 2018], [MudRunner], [Rugby 18], [Ride 3].\n\n### Indie Games\n\nThese are games developed by independent creators, i.e., who are not under contract with a publisher. Some are funded via crowdfunding.\nIndie games are mostly made by small teams of enthusiasts with often limited resources. Many are pale copies of existing games, but about a third are true gems (Trine, Minecraft….) and become cult through word of mouth. Indie games generally have less budget (Death Stranding is an exception) but their creators listen more to community feedback and enjoy a freedom not found in big AAA games. Strong topics, an original artistic direction with real aesthetic choices. This is the wellspring of the video game world. At Blacknut we want to showcase these true “creations.” Such as: [A Normal Lost Phone], [Pan-Pan], [Tengami], [Back to Bed], [The Bridge], [Human Fall Flat], [Manual Samuel], [Mini Metro], [Serial Cleaner], [Pony Island], [Circles], [Badland: Game Of The Year Edition]...
