SteamWorld Dig is an action-adventure puzzler with strong Metroidvanian influences set in the SteamWorld Universe. You’ll need to dig deep into the earth, gather resources to upgrade your tools and abilities, take on enemies, solve challenging puzzles and uncover the secrets to save a dying town.
SteamWorld Dig follows Rusty, a mining robot who arrives in a small western town and starts digging beneath it. The tunnels contain resources, secrets, enemies and an ancient threat hidden deeper underground.
The game combines mining exploration, platforming, combat and gear upgrades. You extract ore, return to sell it and buy more capable tools. The mine uses randomized layouts, making each descent different and encouraging you to plan the return to the surface.
We loved: The progression loop. Every upgrade lets you dig further and makes earlier areas easier to revisit.
We liked: The steampunk world. The mine, town and machines give the adventure a clear identity.
Our favorite part: The underground secrets. Detours reward curiosity and make exploration about more than collecting ore.
Our tip to help you: Do not descend without keeping a possible route back. Upgrade tools that improve movement and carrying capacity before focusing only on power. When you find a difficult area, remember it and return after gaining the right upgrade.
