A solid 3D platformer inspired by Journey, where you play as a little guy with a shape-shifting scarf in an enchanting game world. Solve puzzles, beat challenges, and, most of all, explore profound themes like freedom, heroism, and the consequences of your actions. A real little gem that's great to play as a family, for ages 7+.
If you're a fan of clever games that also look good, then you'll love SCARF. This 3D platformer, developed by Uprising Studios and published by HandyGames, whisks you away on a captivating and mystical adventure where exploration and logic are the orders of the day. Both moving and non-violent, SCARF is a real gem!
You play as Hyke, a mysterious little being that encounters a red dragon-like creature that wraps itself around his neck, but that has a mind of its own. Your job is to exact vengeance on rebel souls who have created their own worlds. This epic quest will take you across three spellbinding biomes (as well as a central hub), each with its own visual identity and gameplay mechanics.
The gameplay in SCARF focuses on exploration and puzzle-solving. Hyke's shapeshifting scarf turns out to be an essential tool that can transform into a variety of very useful objects: a pair of wings to fly, a catapult to cross vast distances, and even a hang-glider to float gently through the air. These transformations are key to progressing and solving the environmental puzzles you'll face.
We liked SCARF's soothing, enchanting world, and one of the best things about the game is the mood its graphics and soundtrack create. From rocky coastlines to the oppressive heat of desert landscape, and including verdant forests, each world is filled with colourfully majestic landscapes. The orchestral soundtrack is the perfect accompaniment to your exploration, creating a calming atmosphere.
Our favourite part? The deep themes that the game deals with without shoving it in your face. The story invites players to reflect on ideas like freedom, heroism, and the consequences of their actions. It is an adventure that will not leave you unmoved, and you might even feel teary at certain points in the game!
Our tip to help you on your way? In the first world, you'll discover a stone that lets you divert the deadly waters that surround you. In the forest, you'll need to interact with its inhabitants to get ahead. The new mechanics include crows and rabbits that can slow your progress. And make sure you take the time to practice transforming in safe areas. Use your hang-glider ability to explore hidden and otherwise inaccessible areas, and the catapult to quickly traverse great distances. Being familiar with your scarf's abilities lets you solve puzzles more smoothly.
A cross between Omno and Journey, we fell in love with SCARF for its fairytale artistic direction and its surprising emotional depth. Through the text and cutscenes that tell a streamlined story, the game helps players out with frequent hints, but that makes it accessible to younger gamers, too. A real marvel of a game to play and share, for ages 7+.
