Rayman Origins - Standard Edition
Publisher: Ubisoft
Michel Ancel, celebrated creator of Rayman®, Beyond Good & Evil®, and the Raving Rabbids®, returns to his roots to bring us Rayman® Origins: a high-definition, 2D side-scrolling, platforming adventure with full four-player co-op!
In 2011, Ubisoft Montpellier brought Rayman back to his roots with a visually stunning 2D platformer built using the UbiArt Framework engine. Hailed as one of the best platformers of its generation, it made fully justified comparisons with the great mascot platformers of the 90s.
The game supports up to four players in local co-op, features hand-drawn environments in high-definition cartoon style, remarkably rich level design and a difficulty that rises progressively to fearsome heights. The musical levels in particular remain among the most memorable platforming moments in the medium.
We loved: The art direction and UbiArt engine. Every Rayman Origins level is an animated painting. The aesthetic, the fluidity of animations, the variety of visual biomes: hard to find a 2D platformer that has aged as well.
We liked: The co-op for up to 4 players. Rayman Origins in co-op is simultaneously joyful and intense: levels let players help each other while creating productive chaos that significantly amplifies the fun of group sessions.
Our highlight: The musical levels. At a certain point in the game, entire levels are synchronised with the soundtrack. Every obstacle, enemy and platform follows the music's beat. These sequences are unique moments that justify the game on their own.
Our tip to help you: Learn the wall bounce as early as possible. In the advanced levels, chaining wall jumps with precision is the key to reaching secret areas and hidden Electoons. Practise in the early zones where the margin for error is greater. In timed passages, never stop: the accumulated speed lets you clear obstacles that seem impossible from a standstill.
