Ladybug and Cat Noir in a whole new story! The millions of fans of this iconic series will love playing this one in single-player or co-op. The plot is fun and well-paced, the characters are adorable and well-modelled, and the gameplay is easy to get to grips with. The levels are also nice just to explore and worth playing again. An RPG for kids aged 9+, that will also help you get to know Paris.
"Miraculous Simply the best! Up to the test when things go wrong! Miraculous. The luckiest! The power of love, always so strong!" While the average age of fans of the Miraculous cartoon is 25, this game that combines platforming, combat, and RPG elements is designed for players aged 7-11. It's sure to be an immediate hit with the youngest gamers. There are seven levels including a tutorial, each with their own little boss to beat.
We liked how the game remains true to the original. The city of Paris, the well-written dialogue, and the voices of the cartoon characters immediately immerse players in the Miraculous universe.
In terms of gameplay, Ladybug and Cat Noir pick up new abilities over the course of the seven levels, enabling them to reach previously inaccessible areas and providing a Metroidvania component that extends the game's replayability. You'll be revisiting different levels to collect items you’ve missed. The youngest players will be happy exploring the hidden areas, with symbols highlighting alternative paths. The RPG elements like new skills and character upgrades also add some strategic depth to the game, while the need to collect spheres of light encourage you to explore every corner of the levels.
We also liked the way that you can switch between Ladybug and Cat Noir in the blink of an eye, which you'll sometimes need to do to interact with certain characters. It adds another bit of strategy to the gameplay.
Best get one thing straight from the outset: some bosses – like Mr Pigeon and Weredad – might be a challenge for the littlest gamers, but with a bit of perseverance or some help from mum and dad, they'll be able to win the day. The co-op mode is another opportunity to share the experience with a friend or member of the family.
Our favourite part? Alternating between Ladybug's skills and Marinette's everyday life. Younger players will enjoy taking her to school as much as fighting the baddies.
A little tip to help you on your way: for total immersion, follow the markers above the characters while exploring the streets of Paris. They make it easier to progress and trigger key events naturally. While on missions the way is always straight ahead, but on the streets of Paris it can be tricky to find your way. However, you should make sure you explore every hidden corner to collect as many light spheres as you can and unlock new abilities for your heroes.
Miraculous: Rise of the Sphinx succeeds in delivering a game world and gameplay that are perfectly suited to kids who like the cartoon. A must-play for your budding superheroes!
