If you’re not a ‘90s kid, then you probably don’t care that much about the fate of planet Twinsun. For everyone else, here’s a great trip down memory lane that turns into an epic quest!
Welcome to this planetoid with two suns that’s home to the Spheros, Rabbibunnies, Quetchs, and Grobos, who all live in perfect harmony. At least they did before there was Dr. Funfrock!
This dangerous dictator is the head of a totalitarian regime that’s built upon fear and the oppression of basic rights. But that’s not all! Able to clone soldiers and teleport them to any location he desires, he rounded up every species into the same hemisphere where they could be more easily controlled.
Fortunately for the people of Twinsun, an ancient prophecy tells of the goddess Sendell and a line of “chosen ones”. The latest in this line of chosen ones with the power to change the course of history is Twinsen, a young Quetch whose apocalyptic visions mean that his first stop is the mental asylum. But that’s before he goes on to become a living legend!
Little Big Adventure, or LBA to those in the know, is a famous isometric 3D action-adventure game playable in single-player mode only. Designed by France’s Frédérick Raynal and developed by Adeline Software in 1994, the game is the gold standard in retro gaming and is often seen as the PC’s own Zelda. Nostalgia guaranteed for kids of the time!
In addition to its complex storyline, challenging difficulty, and universe that’s teeming with life and interactions, it also features unique gameplay based on very different action modes. Normal mode lets you trigger mechanisms, Athletic mode lets you run and jump, Aggressive mode is for fighting, and Discreet mode lets you sneak in silence.
Throughout the game, you’ll need to switch between them and use the right mode at the right time, as well as using your dexterity and wits to best platform and even outright FPS sequences! And remember that there’s been a price on your head since you left the asylum. So try to find help from the populace and gather as many useful items as you can, and always keep an eye on your health bar. If it runs out, you can wave goodbye to Zoe, the Dino-Fly, your planet, and your own glorious destiny!
More than a game, this is a true classic and still stands out as a unique video-gaming experience all these years later!
