Forget about Mario and Luigi. The most explosive duo to ever come out of Italy are two sisters: Giana and Maria!
But while they were minding their own business reading in bed, a mysterious crystal burst into their room and opened a vortex right above their heads!
All of a sudden, a red claw reaches out and snatches Maria, carrying her off into a parallel universe! But after discovering this luxuriant and colourful new world, Maria is swallowed whole by her kidnapper, the evil Gurglewocky!
Giana is then faced with a choice: to cry her eyes out, or follow her sister and the fat old dragon into the unknown.
And of course, Giana without her sister is not really Giana anymore. She flies into rages, jumps on every bird she sees, and changes form whenever the whimsy takes her! And so you’ll find yourself at the controls of a "good" Giana and a "punk" Giana, each of which has radically a different personality, look, and skills, as does the world around her and the soundtrack! Ah… teenagers.
Giana Sisters Twisted Dreams is a 2.5D adventure game developed by Black Forest Games and financed through a Kickstarter campaign that far exceeded its goal. A single-player game that’s suitable for the whole family, it’ll demand a bit of thought, some skill, and plenty of creativity if you’re to complete it.
In terms of gameplay, it couldn’t be simpler: you jump on enemies, move with the D-pad, and "charge" and whirl through the air at the press of a single button.
Some sequences will require you to change form in the midst of the action, not to mention those dangerous acrobatics you’ll need to pull off to defeat the bosses and armoured enemies.
The most curious gamers out there can check out the "Extras" menu, where you’ll find bonus levels like "Dieselstörmers", made to thank the Kickstarter patrons, as well as special Christmas and Halloween levels.
Players who are always up for a scrap can continue the adventure in the standalone expansion entitled Giana Sisters: Rise of the Owlverlord. In it, you’ll discover what the sisters’ lives were like "before the drama", and their complex relationship with their father.
But most importantly, you’ll find added difficulty and a new winged enemy: the Owlverlord!
