Explore the great beyond with Lux the Skeleton, as you help him try to fit in. Within its 3D pixellated world (Voxel), you'll be using a cubic artefact to solve puzzles, playing hide-and-seek to avoid unbeatable enemies, and catching will-o'-the-wisps hidden in the colourful voxel environment where the only rule is keeping your head, even though you're often at risk of losing it!
We loved this fantastic game for its unique aesthetic and total lack of combat!
Welcome to life after life. Lux wakes up in a strange place, neither living nor dead. There, he discovers that he is the long-awaited hero tasked with battling "The Corruption" and stopping this strange "afterlife" from falling apart, and saving his own new existence along the way.
DE-EXIT - Eternal Matters not only serves up spellbinding gameplay, but it also delivers a profound narrative. Themes of life and death and what comes next are all explored through the eyes of Lux and the residents of the Plane of Memory. Each chapter reveals new parts of the plot, with every encounter providing valuable insights into the mysteries of this strange world.
We loved the voxel graphics that create a visual atmosphere that manages to be both minimalist and cinematic. The voxels (small cubes put together to create 3D characters and environments) give the game a unique retro style. All of the game's environments are lovingly designed, featuring breathtaking landscapes and immersive environments. The bright colours and attention to detail oscillate between the surreal and the fantastical, while the light and shade effects produce a dreamlike depth.
Playing as Lux, you'll be using a magic artefact to solve puzzles. This artefact, a cube, grants you special powers.
The puzzles are intelligently designed, gaining an additional layer of complexity with every new ability. The stealth sections, where Lux needs to avoid invincible enemies, provide a nice change of pace from the more dynamic platforming sequences.
Our favourite part? The magic artefact mechanics. Each of the abilities is introduced gradually, enabling players to get used to them and think of new ways to interact with the world around them.
We liked how themes like death and the afterlife are smoothly incorporated into the plot and the gameplay. Every encounter with an NPC offers a unique perspective on death, and really add to the story.
Our tip to help you on your way? In the stealth sections, quickly flash your light to spot enemies without drawing their attention. Always keep moving and observe your enemies' patrol routes to plan your movements. Use the environment to your advantage, hiding behind objects and using telekinesis to create diversions. You're not here to fight!
In short, DE-EXIT - Eternal Matters is a great game that's well worth your time. The dialogue is excellent, with fun voice acting, and the graphics are amazing. It would be a shame to miss this one!
