BUTCHER is a fast-paced, blood-soaked 2D shooter where carnage is the only way forward. Become a ruthless cyborg tasked with eradicating humanity, leaving nothing but blood, guts, and destruction in your wake. There's no such thing as too much violence in this grim, retro-styled gorefest.

There was a time when action games had a single objective: kill everything that moves, as fast as possible. BUTCHER pays tribute to that era with absolutely disarming sincerity and brutality. Developed by Phobia Game Studio, it is a fast, brutal and cathartic 2D shooter, a declaration of love in blood and pixels dedicated to the classics of the 1990s.

BUTCHER - Crunching Koalas - A blood-soaked love letter to the 90s

You play a cyborg programmed to exterminate the last remnants of humanity. No complex storyline, no moral dilemmas, no hidden collectibles. Your mission is as simple as it is relentless: push forward and annihilate everything in your path. With a varied arsenal, chainsaw, machine gun, flamethrower, shotgun, and levels designed to test your reflexes to the limit, BUTCHER is a pure, raw and immediately exhilarating gameplay experience.

We loved: The speed and responsiveness of the gameplay, reaching heights rarely seen in the genre. BUTCHER does not hesitate: from the very first second you are plunged into action and the tempo never drops. This immediacy, this refusal of any superfluous pause, is exactly what made the great 90s shooters so addictive.

We liked: The level design, inventive and varied despite the apparent simplicity of the concept. Levels multiply environmental traps (circular saws, lava, deadly drops), enemies with distinct behaviours and room layouts that constantly force you to adapt your tactics. You never feel like you are doing a simple corridor shoot.

Our highlight: The dark and visceral pixel art aesthetic. BUTCHER does not try to seduce with beauty, it aims to impress with intensity. The industrial and apocalyptic settings, the pixel-art blood spatters and the fluid enemy animations create an atmosphere as oppressive as it is exhilarating. The metal and industrial soundtrack rounds the picture off perfectly.

Our tip to help you: Use the environment as a weapon. In BUTCHER, enemies can be knocked into lava pits, caught by saw blades or hurled into the void, saving your ammunition and health. Learn each level's layout before charging: some passages that look like dead ends hide exits or valuable bonuses. And never neglect the chainsaw for close-quarters combat: it is often more effective than your ranged weapons in confined spaces.

Who is this game for?
BUTCHER is aimed at players aged 16 and over who are nostalgic for 90s 2D shooters and enjoy a challenge. Its high difficulty makes it demanding, but short sessions of 10 to 30 minutes let you progress in stages. With 5 hours of content, it is an intense and concentrated experience, perfect for blowing off steam with surgical efficiency.
