"No, Obelix: you fell into it when you were a little boy!" The sales figures for Asterix are astronomical, with 370 million books sold. That even beats Tintin, with “just” 240 million copies sold.
And when it comes to the video-gaming world, the moustachioed Gaul comes off rather well, especially compared to other licensed games! The developers at Étrange Libellule and Osome Studio have pulled out all the stops to immerse us in the world of the most famous French comic book. Our irreducible Gauls are back to rescue Panoramix (again). To do so, you’ll need to solve simple puzzles as well as, of course, sending legionnaires flying by the XII!
The gameplay is straightforward and the puzzles won’t give you a headache, so it’s the perfect game to help you unwind. It's fun to find the Easter eggs contained in the game, some of which are easier to spot than others. Fans of Super Mario Sunshine will smile when they encounter the game's first special enemy, then there's also references to Pacman, Sonic, Splinter Cell, and more. And keep your eyes peeled: some are more obvious than others. We'll let you find them for yourself.
Asterix & Obelix XXL 2 boasts a respectable playtime. The game environments are varied, and feature many well-known locations. There's “Las Vegum” which, of course, even has its own casino. Las Vegum is a new theme park in the heart of Rome, with gladiator battles XXIV/VII. Slaves are also fed to the lions every day of the week. Sounds good so far!
But the thing we really loved about this game can be summed up in II names: Roger Carel and Pierre Tornade. The original voice actors who played Asterix and Obelix agreed to perform the voices for the game. This healthy dose of nostalgia is more than welcome for anyone who grew up with the XII Tasks of Asterix.
So go on, take a trip down memory lane to ancient Gaul!
