It's been a long wait for a game with a spark of that Wave Race 64 magic, but the long wait is over thanks to this jet ski racer.

Aqua Moto Racing Utopia is there to give us what we've been missing, and it really delivers: the races are fun, and you need to hit the right line around the buoys to get a satisfying speed boost, even if you might end up too busy pulling stunts to finish on the podium.

The game is great to look at, whether that's the water, special effects, or weather along the course.

The different jet skis all boast solid handling, and they each have their own stats. It's easy to dive straight into the fun even if you've never been on a jet ski in real life.

There are three kinds of race in Championship mode: Runabout, Jet Ski and Freestyle, with jet skis that get more powerful and a technical side that gets much more demanding. You'll complete a series of races to earn as many points as you can, as well as money that you can use to upgrade your gear, and then you can unlock engines that are much more powerful that what you get at the start.

Our advice? Start off in Tropical Islands before heading to Sunshine City. These are the easiest races to learn the ropes.

Take care on some of the harder races: the AI is aggressive!

These include the Pearl Dome, where the wakes of your competitors will often send you careening off the track, and Oil Rig, where you'll be competing in a heavy swell. You can catch some serious air off the waves around an oil rig!

We liked the Free Exploration mode that lets you get used to both the tracks and the controls. Perfect for a quick blast!

Split Screen mode lets you enjoy custom multiplayer races, in Freestyle or Free Exploration mode, then there's the Party Modes.

Our favourite part? the four multiplayer modes that are just about having fun: Aqua Moto Hockey, Keep the Flag, King of the Hill, and Duckling Mama, which is a Mario Kart-style battle. Perfect for an evening gaming with friends.

It's not often you get such fun arcade game modes racing games!
