Inspired by the work of Edgar Allan Poe and Lovecraft, here revisited with some Black Mirror magic, Saint Kotar is a dark point and click adventure for fans of tight dialogue. Between paranoia and sorcery, this is both a psychological horror and detective game with a slow, oppressive pace, and one that stands out for its atmosphere. Not one for the kids!
Inspired by the work of horror masters Edgar Allan Poe and H.P. Lovecraft, as well as by cult TV series like Black Mirror and True Detective, Saint Kotar will captivate players with its original setting that's as bleak as it is gripping, as well as its story that full of twists and turns.
Welcome to Croatia. From the very first minutes of the game you'll be immersed in a mysterious, oppressive world. The protagonist, Benedek Dohnany, wakes up next to his brother-in-law, Nikolay Kalyakin, in a strange house with no memory of the past 48 hours.
A series of worrying signs start to appear: blood in a stoup, dead crows on the balcony, and an enigmatic portrait. The atmosphere becomes more than stifling, and strange things start to happen. The disappearance of Victoria, Benedek's sister, lies at the heart of these mysteries, and you are soon led through a series of macabre murders and unexplained phenomenon on your way to find her.
The gameplay in Saint Kotar is based on point and click mechanics and focuses on exploration, with the player alternating between Benedek and Nikolay. This switching between characters helps maintain the suspense and build the sense of immersion.
We liked the bleak game world, fully painted by hand, that really reflects the world of Lovecraft.
The game is also inhabited by fascinating supporting characters, all touched by the madness that will soon blossom within you.
Our advice? Go for the Classic Horror mode for an even more terrifying experience that removes colour and darkens the environment.
Not a game for kids or sensitive souls, Saint Kotar is one for fans of mystery, suspense, and psychological horror. Prepare to descend into darkness in this cursed Croatian village, where evil and madness await on every street corner.
