Far Cry 3 - Standard Edition
Publisher: Ubisoft
Far Cry 3 is an open world first-person shooter set on an island unlike any other. A place where heavily armed warlords traffic in slaves. Where outsiders are hunted for ransom. And as you embark on a desperate quest to rescue your friends, you realize that the only way to escape this darkness… is to embrace it
Jason Brody was just a tourist. An American student on holiday with friends on a paradise island. Then everything collapsed. Captured by pirates led by the charismatic and unpredictable Vaas Montenegro, he must now survive, become a warrior and save those he loves. Developed by Ubisoft Montreal and published by Ubisoft, Far Cry 3 is one of the most acclaimed open-world FPS games of its generation.
The island of Rook is vast, lush and dangerous. You explore it freely, liberating enemy outposts, hunting wild animals to craft equipment, progressing through a skill tree inspired by tribal tattoos. Ubisoft's open-world formula finds one of its most convincing expressions here, carried by more mature writing and a memorable antagonist.
We loved: Vaas Montenegro. A cult figure in video game history, Vaas is one of the best-written and best-performed antagonists in FPS. His definition of insanity, doing the same thing and expecting a different result, has entered the medium's legend.
We liked: The crafting and progression system. Choosing which skills to unlock on the tattoo tree, crafting ammo pouches from hunted animal skins: Far Cry 3 rewards exploration and risk-taking.
Our highlight: The narrative direction. Far Cry 3 says something about violence, power and transformation. Jason Brody is not the same person at the end as he was at the start, and the game embraces that fully.
Our tip to help you: Liberate outposts without triggering the alarm to recover the full XP bonus and secure respawn and resupply zones. The hunting system also deserves early attention: the inventory upgrades it unlocks radically transform your quality of play.
